Our
Red Angus program was started at the request of our customers, who wanted
us to add additional English genetics that would thrive in the often harsh
environment of south central Kansas. For over a decade, we had admired the
"no-nonsense" approach of Red Angus, with performance selection the foundation
of the breed. Thus, in the winter of 1997, Don and Brent began building
the cow herd with females from some of the top herds in North America:
From these top herds, we selected only those cows that were the elite, proven producers or who were from cow families that were the best the breed had to offer. At the same time, we have added some of the breed's top herd sires, through both natural service and AI. Please visit our HERD SIRE page to see the top sires currently in use at Lonker Red Angus. Our cattle are
marketed through our annual production sale,
held in early March of each year. Cattle are also available through private
treaty. We have an extensive embryo transfer program, with 15-20 of the
top cows in the herd in ET at any given time. 200 or more embryos are
implanted annually, bringing our total annual calf calf crop to approximately
300 head. Because of the fast growth of our herd, we will offer all cows
4 years old and over in our first-ever "Female Fantastica" in early November
of 2002. Watch for details for an event you won't want to miss. Over 300
head of elite Red Angus females will sell so make plans now to attend
this unique sale! Yes! We are extremely excited about the future of Red Angus cattle. If you're interested in Red Angus, we can fill any need with herd bulls, females, semen, embryos or as a Lonker cooperator herd. Don't hesitate to call or come by…our door is open anytime! |
